Participants should bring a laptop with internet access for hands-on activities.*
Introduction to Digital Pedagogy – August 15
Digital Pedagogy is the critical pedagogical approach to digital technologies for teaching and learning and is an essential skill for the 21st century classroom. It is about paying attention to the impact of digital tools on learning and knowing when and how to use digital tools effectively.
In this workshop, we will discuss what digital tools are at our disposal for teaching and learning, how to decide when to adopt them, and how to use them well. We will examine several successful examples of using digital tools to enhance student learning, and participants will have the opportunity to begin crafting their own assignments and activities using digital tools.
Designing Effective Assignments and Activities Using Digital Tools – August 16
This workshop builds upon Intro to Digital Pedagogy and provides a venue for instructors to develop assignments or classroom activities using digital technology as well as share and receive feedback. In this workshop, we will explore how to design effective assignments and activities that make productive use of digital tools, such as digital collaborative documents and multimedia, as a means of enhancing student learning. Participants will review the assignment/activity design process, learn how to identify opportunities for incorporating digital tools, recognize new modes of inquiry afforded by these tools, and execute these assignments or activities successfully.
*Laptops are also available for lending at the TechBar at Regenstein Library (1st floor), if needed

The Chicago Center for Teaching (CCT) supports the University’s diverse community of instructors--graduate students, postdocs, and faculty members--in developing their teaching practices with the goal of enhancing student learning across campus. CCT programs are not open to the public and are only available to affiliates of the Univeristy of Chicago. We are committed to the idea that effective teaching begins with an instructor’s intentions and expectations for their students. Toward that end, we encourage the use of pedagogical practices that are based in scholarly literature on teaching and learning and foster dialogue and reflection on effective teaching through workshops, seminars, individual consultations, and other programs and activities. Our aim is to promote teaching as a scholarly practice that is integral to the University’s values.
